Job Description

Description of Duties:

To create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitude and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for Elementary, Middle or High school education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Motivate students to develop abilities and talents.
  • Aid students to perceive a personal and realistic goal.
  • Monthly meetings and reports as directed.
  • Participate in team meetings as required.
  • Teaches district approved curriculum
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Supervises classroom and students and volunteers

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

 

  • Massachusetts DESE Certification
  • Health & Family Consumer Science License Strongly Recommended
  • If candidate does not already have license, candidate will be expected to acquire license 
  • Physical Education 5-12 

 

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

Ability to work with children.  Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
