Job Description

Directs and oversees all business management affairs of the school and prepares financial analyses of operations, including monthly financial statements to present to the Board of Trustees. The Business Manager is responsible for the school’s financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, the conduct of its relationships with lending institutions and the financial community, relationships with vendors and the Department of Education and other government agencies, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports. The position involves supervision over bookkeeping, human resources, food services and grant management, and other operating areas that have a financial impact on the school. The Finance & Operations Director Manager will model the character virtues and mission of the school.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Accounting & Finance
Maintains the school’s system of accounts and keeps books and records on all school transactions. Supervises accounting and human resources coordinators, coordinates/prepares journal entries, bank reconciliations, and other required financial/accounting functions.
Develops monthly financial statements including budget comparisons to be included in a report to the Board of Trustees at scheduled meetings.
Prepares and/or supervises preparation of financial reports required by the Department of Education or other government agencies.
Coordinates and prepares the annual budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures, and analyzes and reports variances.
Prepares work papers, coordinates and participates in the annual independent audit required by state regulations including determination of “Single Audit” requirements related to Federal funds.
Maintains financial records related to all grant awards to ensure amounts are spent properly and participates in preparation of required reports.
Maintains financial records and prepares quarterly and annual reports related to Medicaid related billings and reimbursement claims.
Prepares and updates long-range financial projections to ensure the school’s financial success, estimates financial requirements for long-range facilities and educational needs and works with banks or investment banks to obtain financing and manage school funds as necessary.
Administers the school’s 403B plan.

Develops, coordinates, and supervises procurement and accounts payable functions and policies. Reviews all accounts/contracts at least annually and awards contracts for school services such as transportation, nutrition program, employee benefits, maintenance contracts etc. Reviews and approves, within policy limits, all purchases and expenditures of the school.
Serves as primary liaison with all vendors of the school , including financial institutions, legal advisors, independent auditors insurance brokers , copiers, technology, supplies, etc.
Responsible for developing and ensuring compliance with all financing arrangements for the school.

Human Resources
Serves as Human Resources Director and oversees all aspects of the human resource function including staffing, employee benefits, employee handbooks and policies etc.
Manages overall records, communication and coordination of all Human Resources policies, plans and programs.
Counsels employees on complex issues, assists in problem resolution, and oversees the termination process in an attempt to proactively bring ER issues to successful resolution, while reducing corporate liability.
Manages and oversees payroll administration processes and activities, ensuring compliance with Labor Laws.
Serves as non-voting member of the Finance Committee, Facilities Committee and other committees deemed necessary by the Board of Trustees.

Master's degree in finance or CPA, and minimum five years related work experience.
Proficiency in accounting and related software applications as well as word processing, database and spreadsheet applications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills.

Basic office equipment including computers, copy machines, calculators, telephones, facsimile machines, overhead projectors

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate but can be noisy, depending upon the task at hand. Specific activities may generate dust and/or non toxic fumes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear, write, use their hands and fingers, manipulate keys on a keyboard, walk, stand, travel from one area/building to another, stoop, reach, and kneel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision. Some light lifting and/or carrying may be required.

Full Time Salary Exempt position. Salary Commensurate with experience.
