Job Description

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Arrives and departs work according to the assigned schedule.
Works within the established system(s) to submit leave requests, leave hours and hours worked.
Attends required inservice, meetings and professional development.
Is familiar with specific student plans, as needed, and carries out those plans consistently.
Collects data on student behavior and/or academics, as well as administering academic assessments, as requested, and shares observations and outcomes with the Case Manager and/or Teacher to support future planning.
Attends to non-instructional responsibilities (such as, but not limited to, clerical duties, recess and lunch duties) as assigned.
Responds with flexibility to changes in assignment based on changing student, classroom, staffing and school needs.
Models and engages in professional conduct consistent with school-wide behavioral expectations.
Facilitates student interactions and behaviors that are consistent with school-wide behavioral expectations and uses the school’s current recognition system for student behavior.
Maintains student confidentiality at all times.
Assists students with personal care (i.e. toileting, eating, dressing, physical and medical needs) as necessary.
Engages in and/or facilitates individual, small group or class support and instructional monitoring as deemed appropriate by the Teacher, Case Manager and Principal.
The Paraprofessional implements supplemental instruction designed by the Teacher and/or Case Manager to individuals and small groups of students.
Supports the use of technology (i.e. iPad), as assigned, to support student learning as outlined in school policy and procedures.
Demonstrates academic skills (i.e. math, reading, writing) consistent with the ability to support students.
Remains calm and efficient in day-to-day work and during crisis situations.
Communicates effectively with the school community.
Conducts him/herself with a high degree of professionalism consistent with the school-wide expectations and contributes positively to the school climate.
If trained and certified, utilizes the de-escalation and physical intervention strategies of Handle with Care, if trained and certified.

    Job Requirements

    • Associate’s Degree, or High School Diploma plus 48 college credits, or High School Diploma plus successful completion of the FWSU-approved online assessment for Paraeducators.
