Job Description

Lyndon Institute is a comprehensive, independent high school providing thoughtful and rigorous preparation for students of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and beyond to reach their intellectual, creative, and physical potential.

It is the responsibility of the Science Department Chair to:
- Develop and facilitate the structures and systems needed for a high functioning science department including:
1. Budget creation and oversight
2. Curriculum development and alignment
3. Identifying professional development opportunities for department members
4. Serve as a member of LI’s Academic Council
- Provide a stimulating learning environment for each student
- Exhibit enthusiasm for the topics s/he teaches
- Collaborate as a team player with teaching colleagues and administrators
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders
- Be an engaged member of the Lyndon Institute community, showing support and involvement in student activities outside of the classroom including LI’s residential program
- Model behavior that reflects Lyndon Institute’s Mission Statement

    Job Requirements

    • Requirements
      - Qualified applicants should possess a Master’s degree in Science and have multiple years of teaching experience in a high school setting.
      - Candidates should have specific content knowledge and teaching experience in a range of courses in the physical and life sciences at an array of grade levels from freshman to AP. Experience in and willingness to facilitate interactive and engaging exploratory lab experiences is a critical element of this position. Familiarity with and use of Next Generation Science Standards and Proficiency Based curriculum is expected.
      - A minimum of 3-5 years experience either as a Department Chair or comparable administrative experience is required.
