Job Description

Are you looking to get your foot in the door in our of Vermont's largest school districts? Do you believe every student can succeed?

We have a temporary full-time Mainstream Instructional Assistant position available at our Thomas Fleming Elementary School to assist and supervise assigned special needs students instructionally, behaviorally and physically in the general mainstream program for the remainder of the 2019-20 school-year. Position will involve working with a student individually and/or in small groups.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
- Working knowledge of disabilities of special education students, and special education teaching methods, theories and laws preferred.
- Successful experience working with students with emotional challenges and mental health diagnosis required.
- Working knowledge of children at the middle school level preferred. Experience working with children/adolescents at this age level also preferred.
- One year of directly relevant experience in a school setting desirable.
- Understanding of standard classroom operations and teaching methods.
- Strong reading, writing and math skills; demonstrated mastery of academic subject matter being taught to students. Relevant training/experience pertinent to computer instruction curricula.
- Ability to assist students physically as required.
- Ability to remain calm and efficient in responding to medical or other emergencies.
- Ability to show patience, respect and compassion in working with students.
- Flexibility within schedule to meet bus and/or stay with student at the end of the day.
