Job Description

BB&N is seeking a Grade 6 Homeroom Teacher/Language Arts Teacher to fill a maternity leave during Spring 2020. Responsibilities include managing a homeroom as well as teaching three sections of language arts. The core of the language arts program follows a curriculum designed using an analytical approach to literature. In addition, this teacher collaborates with the Social Studies teacher for cross-curricular discussions and projects on human rights, identity and race as well as the Sixth Grade and MS teams to plan programs which transition sixth graders to the Middle School.

  • Job Requirements

    • The ideal candidates should have a minimum of three years teaching experience at the upper elementary or MS level, significant knowledge of child development, and knowledge of curriculum development, and experience writing curriculum. A degree in English or Masters degree is preferred.

      In addition, the candidate will demonstrate the following:

      • Ability to lead discussions with students, asking probing questions to help them discover independent readings of texts
      • Ability to help students learn to annotate texts
      • Comfortable teaching a variety of texts (short stories, poetry, novels, etc.) and writing genres
      • Ability to collaborate with colleagues
      • Excellent writing skills
      • Comfortable teaching grammar
      • Capacity to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
      • Predisposition to reflect warmth and a positive spirit
      • Desire and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
      • Understand and exhibit high standards of professional conduct
      • Ability to support social emotional learning goals
    • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
    • Master degree preferred
