Job Description

Westford Elementary School is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and dedicated professional to teach literacy in either the 3/4 or 5/6 classroom in the 2020-21 school year. The focus of this position shall be literacy including reading, writing and word study supporting a balanced literacy approach.

Qualified candidates must hold a valid Educator license with an Elementary Education endorsement. The ideal candidate will also have relevant teaching experience that demonstrates the following:

- Deep knowledge and understanding of the Common Core State Standards
- Experience at the primary elementary level preferred
- The use of “backwards design” for lesson development
- The use of differentiated instruction to support all students
- The use of formative assessment to provide student feedback and to adjust lesson delivery
- The use of technology to transform teaching and learning
- The use of the Responsive Classroom approach to establish a safe and caring classroom community
- Dedication to providing a safe and respectful learning environment for students
- Excellent teaching, organizational, planning, written and oral communication, and collaboration skills
- Commitment to the success of ALL students, and ability to understand and teach to the various learning styles of students
- The ability to effectively engage students
- Commitment to continuous improvement in the areas of knowledge and professional practice

For column placement on the salary schedule we consider credits earned after the date of your degree (bachelor's or master's) in which you received a grade of B or better. For step placement, we grant one step for every year of previous public school teaching experience for the first five years, then one step for every two years of public school teaching experience thereafter.
