Curriculum Specialist (Math PreK-12)


Position Title: Curriculum Specialist (Math)

Department: Curriculum and Instruction

Reports To: Curriculum Program Director

Evaluated By: Curriculum Program Director


SUMMARY: Works with superintendent, curriculum program advisior,  principals, and teachers to improve curriculum, instruction, and assessment.



  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Coordinates district efforts in analyzing, developing and aligning curriculum, instruction and assessment.
  • Works cooperatively with all district staff to coordinate a seamless K-12 curriculum.
  • In cooperation with the superintendent, the curriculum program director and principals plans and conducts professional development activities.
  • Works with principals and teachers to interpret and disseminate assessment data.
  • Assists in the selection of instructional materials.
  • Assists in planning and development of new facilities and programs. Studies recent curriculum trends and disseminates information.
  • Assists teachers, department chairs, and principals through demonstration lessons and classroom walk-throughs.
  • Attends department and district curricular meetings as requested by assistant superintendent or principals.
  • Assists assistant superintendent and principals in coordinating the role and responsibility of academic coaches, and chairs academic coaches’ meetings.
  • Work with national, state, educational cooperative math specialist to gain additioinal knowledge of how to better serve the teachers and students of our district.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Master's degree; five years teaching experience.




LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general educational periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, students, administrators, parents, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such general operations and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to interpret graphs and assessment data.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on standards and the needs and abilities of students. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

The position requires the individual to sometimes work irregular or extended work hours and meet multiple demands from several people.
