Job Description

Position Purpose

Under supervision of three Assistant Principals, performs secretarial/clerical work to ensure the efficient operations of the Grade Level Office. This position requires flexibility, multitasking, and a willingness to make quick, insightful decisions while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Duties include monitoring and tracking of student attendance, greeting parents and visitors and responding to inquiries and questions, answering office phones and forwarding messages, responding to teacher and staff requests, preparing reports as requested, documenting student discipline issues, assisting with test distribution, filing, and assisting teachers with homeroom folders and other administrative functions.
  • Processes student discipline letters including typing, filing, and mailing of letters. Maintains discipline log and detention report.
  • Performs secretarial work for school assistant principals. May include drafting correspondence, typing, editing, and other word processing functions. Performs routine tasks such as filing, faxing, copying, and data entry.
  • Work with other departments to coordinate the distribution and collection of homeroom activities, etc. Maintains homeroom folders and inserts information for students.
  • Assists and coordinates with yearly school activities including:  school elections, course selection process, MCAS testing, graduation, school “photo day” including distribution of photos and IDs, etc.
  • Responsible for the assignment of student lockers and handling of locker problems.
  • Responsible for the senior class that includes:  establishing the graduation database, oversee cap & gown measurement, collecting students' outstanding obligations.
Additional Duties
Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the Grade Level Office.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Works in a standard office and school building environment
  • Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involving walking or standing for long periods of time

Qualification Profile
  • Requires High School Diploma or GED
  • College-level course work in business, word processing, and office procedures preferred
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Successful experience with office management in related area preferred

This is an 11-month union position working 7 hours per day, 35 hours per week exclusive of a half-hour unpaid lunch break per day. The salary range for this position is $21.68-$28.68.

Supervision and Evaluation
This position will be supervised and evaluated by the Assistant Principals.
