Job Description

Basic Function
The Creative Producer provides artistic and logistical direction for 2-3 youth summer shows for young people ages 10 and up. Productions take place in the FlynnSpace black box theater, with 2-3 weeks of intensive rehearsal, and culminate in 4-7 public performances. The person in this role works to produce high-quality productions with a team of artists that engage students creatively, developing their performing skills, their social-emotional skills, and helping them feel a sense of belonging and confidence as part of a creative community. Additionally, this role incorporates the talent and expertise of visiting artists to provide unique learning experiences for youth participants.
Creative and logistical planning for summer shows begins in early winter with auditions happening in mid and late winter. Rehearsals begin primarily in June, but some early rehearsals may happen in May, and continue through August. Time for this position is variable, with “as needed hours” early winter through spring, moving to a daily schedule from June through early August.
Characteristics and Responsibilities
• Develops and manages, in conjunction with the Youth Programming Manager, the overall vision, programmatic structure, and polices to support ongoing growth of participants and the program
• Leads the research and selection of material for the summer productions
• Maintains ongoing annual calendar for Performance Program productions, auditions, and events
• Participates in the hiring of artistic team in collaboration with the Youth Programming Manager and Executive Director
• Supervises and evaluates artistic team for all projects in conjunction with Youth Programming Manager
• Works with visiting artists to create a creative learning arc for participants
• Leads a team that coordinates and sources costumes, props, scenic design elements, and other technical needs for productions
• Maintains and tracks budget for the program overall and show by show
• Serves in a leadership role by providing constructive feedback to team members and students during all phases of production
• Leads tech meetings to ensure all participating departments are progressing according to timeline and budget
• Leads auditions and places students in accordance with program placement policies
• Ensures all rights are purchased and secured according to performance calendar
• Manages communication with team, with participants, and with Flynn staff
• Oversees tech and strike for productions, working collaboratively with Flynn Space technical staff and designers

    • Qualifications
      • 3-5 years experience in similar role
      • Ability to manage multiple projects and set priorities
      • Budgeting experience
      • Excellent communication skills; written and verbal
      • Knowledge of youth development and best practices in instruction for youth aged 9-19
      • Strong organization skills
    • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
