Position Overview:

The Central Falls School District seeks to hire a talented, innovative and caring School Nurse-Teacher to fill a full-time position. The ideal candidates will demonstrate an enthusiasm for educating students, faculty and staff, and parents regarding matters of health, wellness, injury/illness prevention, and medical care. Qualifications include: Experience in school medical record keeping and administration; Experience in nutrition, healthy protocols programming for students. Support of District’s values and mission. Ability to work effectively and professionally with faculty and staff. Must have good communication skills with parents. Must be willing to travel between two schools.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrate clinical competency in school nursing practice and oversee the health care for students, providing first aid care and
medically prescribed support and/or services.
2. Review immunizations and medical history of students in the building and new arrivals year round.
3. Provide health care services to students and staff when needed.
4. Work with school personnel in identifying and meeting social, emotional and physical need of students.
5. Assess students’ health and make referrals to urgent care, emergency rooms and/or, if needed provide referrals to the appropriate
school staff or community agency.
6. Maintain confidential health records of students and other relevant health data.
7. Counsel students about good health habits.
8. Perform an assessment of students’ needs prior to dispensing medication.
9. Communicate clearly and professionally with administrators, service providers, and families about student health concerns.
10. Actively participate on the school and district Wellness & Staff Health & Safety Committee.
11. Identify opportunities for coordination with faculty on the student health curriculum to maintain a healthy and safe environment.
12 .Annually conduct classes on first aid and bloodborne pathogens for staff members.
13. Participate in professional development opportunities to supplement knowledge that will enhance care delivered to students.
14. Any work deemed necessary by the building principal(s) or building administrator(s).

    Job Requirements

    • Qualifications:

      1. Valid RI Teaching Certificate for School Nurse/Teacher
      2. Knowledge of RI immunization regulations, school health regulations and communicable disease reporting regulations.
      3. Ability to perform all aspects of school nursing within the Nursing Practice Act and Standards of School Nursing Practice.
      4. Bilingual English-Spanish preferred.

      ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

      •Working knowledge of applicable laws and nursing practice regulations and standards.
      •Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills.
      •Demonstrates organization, leadership, and time management skills;
      •Ability to become proficient navigating in internal and external data systems, including data entry and report production pertinent
      to delivery of school health services.
      •Ability to physically perform assigned duties.
      •Ability to multi-task and work independently with high degree of accuracy, efficiency and attention to detail.
