Remain up to date regarding curriculum content.
Plan instruction effectively.

Plan assessment of student learning effectively.

Monitor students’ understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials or assessments when appropriate.

Create an environment that is positive for student learning and involvement.

Maintain appropriate standards of behavior, mutual respect and safety.

Make learning goals clear to students.

Use appropriate instruction techniques.

Use appropriate questioning techniques

Evaluate, try innovative approaches and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence in ability to learn.

Communicate learning goals and high standards and expectations to students.

Promote confidence and perseverance in the student that stimulate increased personal student responsibility for achieving the goals of the curriculum.

Strive to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.

Demonstrate appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals.

Be constructive and cooperative in interactions with parents and receptive to their contributions.

    Job Requirements

    • Qualification:

      Certification valid for service as a teacher in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

      Bachelor’s Degree.

      Experience with appropriate age group.

      Desired qualities include:

      - experience in providing access to content curriculum to students with cognitive and intellectual disabilities

      - experience with prompting hierarchy, including physical prompting, writing measurable benchmark style goals, frequent communication with team including BCBA, understanding/accessing community opportunities

      - experience with developing program books based on IEP goals and objectives for data collection and progress monitoring

      - understanding of errorless learning and mastery of skills

      - ability and willingness to work with a team and accept feedback and guidance from support staff

      - understanding and implementation of behavior intervention plans

      - experience with developing IEPs based on functional skills, including daily living, self-care, leisure, social, communication, real-life academic applications, etc.

      - ability to develop lessons that will help students to gain skills that can be applied across settings (school, home, community, etc.), as well as plan trips into the community to practice learned skills

      - CPI trained

      - ability to maintain clear structure and expectations, as well as consistency within the classroom setting

      - experience with the development and use of visual supports (schedules, behavior plans, etc.)
    • Bachelor degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
