Duties and Responsibilities
As a member of our founding team, teachers play a critical role in ensuring we provide all students with an excellent education. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
• Plan, implement, and execute engaging and rigorous units and daily standards-based lessons to ensure that all students master the required content
• Develop and administer a variety of formal and informal assessments to measure students’ growth and mastery and to evaluate and refine instruction
• Implement warm-strict classroom management techniques
• Collaborate closely with fellow teachers and other staff members
• Differentiate instruction effectively to meet the individual needs of students
• Identify students who are academically at risk and initiate effective intervention strategies
• Maintain and enrich subject matter expertise
• Participate actively in professional development
• Communicate frequently with parents
• Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree required
• Preferred skills and work experience:
o Demonstrates persistence in overcoming and removing obstacles to goal achievement
o Demonstrates a drive, commitment and sense of urgency that inspires others to achieve results Demonstrated success working with students in traditionally underserved communities
o Critical thinker and problem-solver
o Collaborative team player
o Willingness to engage in frequent dialogue and to be self-reflective with regard to teaching practices
o Commitment to analyzing student data to push student achievement forward
o Ability to work with a variety of learning abilities and differentiate for those students with special needs and English Learners
o Successful classroom manager who firmly believes that a structured environment and high behavioral expectations for all students lead to student achievement
o Spanish fluency highly desirable

    Why Libertas?

    Libertas Academy provides a desirable place to work, develop as a professional, and build a career in urban education. We provide a working environment where respect of teachers is the norm and teachers will have leader support in addressing classroom challenges. We provide ongoing PD that will consist of coaching and support: it will involve frequent, short observations that include coaching in real time and immediate feedback with manageable action steps. Because we will be growing each year, there will are opportunities for professional growth. Teachers will be compensated for additional duties such as teaching at our Saturday Math or our Summer Academy.

    Teachers will be provided with significant professional development opportunities, including:

    30 full professional development days, with 20 days of summer training;
    10 full professional development days through the year including five (5) focused on data analysis;
    Two hours of weekly professional development on early dismissal Fridays;
    Weekly classroom observations followed by feedback sessions and practice-based coaching with instructional leadership;
    A minimum of 110 minutes of planning time daily;
    Common planning time over the summer and for two periods daily throughout the school year, allowing them to plan together, design common assessments, and ensure horizontal and vertical alignment;
    And ongoing coaching in classrooms.
