High School Completion Plan Manager

Vermont Adult Learning: Vermont Adult Learning is a private nonprofit and a member of Vermont’s Adult Education and Literacy System. Working closely with other nonprofits, state agencies, and schools, we serve seven of Vermont’s 14 counties. We provide instruction in basic academic, work readiness, and English language skills; high school completion and GED prep; and transition to college and career services. Our programs are free to students, aged 16 and older who lack a high school diploma or the equivalent skills.

Purpose of the Job: The High School Completion Program assists in-school and out-of-school adults ages 16 and older by providing an alternative pathway to earn a diploma through their local high school. The Plan Manager assists students in identifying education and career goals and developing personalized learning plans that help them reach those goals while also meeting high school graduation requirements. The Plan Manager works closely with students, local high schools, and community partners in developing these plans. The Plan Manager provides ongoing support and coaching as students complete their work and transition to next steps. They are also responsible for program data and reporting. This position requires flexibility, a commitment to student equity, out-of-the-box thinking, and a dedication to continual reflection and improvement.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
• Initiates and develops positive working relationships with local high schools
• Informs students and local high schools of educational services available
• Works with students to identifying education and career goals and develop personalized learning plans that addresses those goals while also satisfying the graduation requirements of the high school
• Monitors and actively manages students’ progress on their personalized learning plans
• Supports and coaches students as they complete their plan and transition to next steps
• Initiates, develops and coordinates positive working relationships with community partners to connect students with a wide variety of learning experiences and wrap around services
• Works closely with teaching team to ensure instruction aligns with student needs
• Completes various administrative tasks in a timely manner
• Ensures consistency and quality of learning opportunities for students
• Facilitates and supports an in-house program at a local high school working with students, individually and in group settings
• Participates in state- and VAL-wide program trainings and professional development opportunities
• Maintains professional standards of confidentiality
• Other duties as assigned


Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:
Bachelor’s Degree is required. Experience preferred with adult students, at-promise students, project-based and proficiency-based learning, and alternative educational systems. Must be excited and skilled at coaching diverse students. Must possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written English communication skills. Requires competency in computer skills. Requires a creative thinker who is knowledgeable of, and able to coordinate, available community resources. Strong organizational skills are necessary to complete administrative tasks. Also requires the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions and Environment: Some travel within the state will be required. Personal, reliable transportation with a valid driver’s license is required. Requires working occasional evenings or weekends.
This is an Exempt, Salaried position.
