Job Description

Reports to: Principal /Headmaster

General Description:

The Guidance Counselor, through the process of individual and group counseling, helps students to understand their aptitudes, capabilities, and limitations in making personal decisions, educational plans and occupational choices. The Guidance Counselor is also responsible for developing, organizing, directing, supervising, and evaluating guidance and related programs.

1. Plans, develops, and implements all guidance programs in cooperation with the
Principal/Headmaster and the Director of Guidance and Student Support Services.
2. Counsels students individually and in small groups.
3. Implements and interprets for students, faculty, and parents evaluative appraisals of students.
4. Assists in the admission, program, record keeping, placement and discharge of students.
5. Develops a positive working relationship with the Bilingual Program Director and other support service personnel to identify problems, share information and design programs.
6. Designs and implements a program of educational and vocational information.
7. Performs other related duties as requested by the Principal/Headmaster.

Qualifications Required:
1. Master's Degree in counseling, education or related field
2. Massachusetts Guidance Counselor License
3. Experience working with urban youth in an educational or human services setting
4. Fluent in oral and written Spanish and/or Portuguese.

Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

1. Experience with database management
2. Demonstrated writing ability
