North Crossing Academy Program
NCA offers two models for full day alternative school programs for students who have experienced challenges in the traditional high school setting. The EDCO North Crossing Therapeutic Day School is an approved special education public day school certified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to provide special education services to adolescents within the context of a therapeutic environment. This school program serves students in grades 6 – 12 who are academically capable yet whose social and emotional needs require placement in a specialized therapeutic educational setting. Our students may have mental health diagnoses and all share a common need for specially designed instruction provided within a positive, supportive, structured educational environment that offers rigorous academic and clinical intervention delivered by skilled, caring and sensitive educators in collaboration with families and collateral contacts. The EDCO 45 Day Assessment Program is a short-term placement option for students with profiles as described above but whose needs for school placement are short term.

The Partners Program enrolls students in grades 6 – 12 as well as post-secondary students who require additional programming to meet their individual transition goals. Our students present with social-cognitive challenges such as: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome, Non-Verbal Learning Disability and similar profiles as well as co-morbid conditions of anxiety, depression, and others. Our students are academically capable of grade level or near grade level academic work. We offer small highly structured and supportive academic classes within a therapeutic milieu. The EDCO Programs place great emphasis on the social-emotional learning of our students. At the foundation of all instruction are the competencies of the 3 S’s: Self-awareness, Social-competency and Stress-management.

The paraprofessional will work with program staff to create and maintain a supportive environment which is conducive to learning and accomplishing social/emotional goals by:
  • assisting teachers to maintain an appropriate classroom environment, assisting with behavioral management, and responding to discipline issues,
  • working with program staff to plan and implement a positive behavioral program that encourages positive behavior,
  • providing supervision of students in classrooms and common areas and enforcing program policies and procedures,
  • attending all general staff meetings, pre-service trainings, and in-service workshops,
  • substituting for teachers in the classroom for absences due to illness, meetings, and other planned or unplanned events,
  • performing other duties as assigned by the program director.

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Working knowledge of an education program's goals and objectives.
    • Ability to provide basic skills instruction and maintain records, supplies, and materials.
    • Ability to supervise and monitor students in structured and unstructured activities and redirect inappropriate behaviors.
    • Ability to establish appropriate professional relationships with staff and students to maintain an environment conducive to learning.
    • Sense of humor.
    • At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred
    • Bachelor degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
