Job Description

Performance Responsibilities:

• Instruction:
o Develop and implement schedules for students’ services in accordance with their IEPs’ service delivery.
o Coordinate schedules with classroom teachers and other specialists’ service delivery.
o Select appropriate instructional programs and methodologies, plan, and implement instruction that matches students’ IEP goals
and objectives.
• Provide appropriate instruction to address IEP goals and objectives, and differentiate instructional accordingly.
o Employ appropriate behavior management techniques during individual or small group instruction.
o Maintain and use adaptive equipment and materials.
o Develop and implement classroom and curricular accommodations and modifications.
o Teach and plan cooperatively with subject area teachers.

• Assessment:
o Assess the progress of all students assigned to his/her caseload and maintain record of data collection.
o Maintain assessment materials for special education evaluations.
o Administer MCAS with accommodations or develop portfolios for MCAS alternate assessment, as outlined in student/s’ IEP s.
o Write reports based on evaluations and present reports at Team eligibility determination meetings.
o Individually test students and complete necessary assessment components for Special Education and Section 504 initial
evaluations and reevaluations.

• Liaison Responsibilities:
o Serve as a Special Education liaison, which includes parent/guardian contact, scheduling of meetings, and completion of
necessary paperwork for evaluations and Team meetings.
o Participate in Team evaluation and review meetings for students on caseload.
o Write Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
o Develop yearly transition plans for students who are 14+.
o Collaborate with colleagues on building to building transition
o Complete progress reports for all students, according to the schedule set by school and special education regulations.
o Coordinate progress reports from all service providers.

• Paraprofessionals:
o Consult with special education paraprofessionals; including planning, coaching, modeling.
o Provide feedback and input regarding paraprofessionals to Special Education Program Administrator

• Communication/Consultation:
o Consult with parents/guardians, classroom teachers, related service providers, school nurse, and paraprofessionals, regarding
planning and students’ program needs.
o Consult with classroom teachers and special education paraprofessionals regarding accommodations and modifications.
o Conduct parent/guardian-teacher conferences during conference periods identified on school calendar.
o Communicate frequently with parents/guardians of students of caseload (e.g. email, telephone, etc.)
o Participate in school Open House for parents/guardians according to schedule set each year.

• Miscellaneous:
o Participate in professional development opportunities to increase knowledge base and skills, as well as maintain licensure.
o Attend and participate in department meetings.
o Maintain the high level of confidentiality and professionalism expected of all faculty.
o Perform other related tasks or duties at the discretion of the Special Education Program Administrator and/or Principal

Bedford High School, the John Glenn Middle School, and the Lt. Job Lane School have recently undergone complete addition/renovations.     Job Requirements

    • Additional Responsibilities:

      Massachusetts Certification in Special Education or School Adjustment Counselor
      Successful completion of a Massachusetts Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and a National Criminal Background Check including fingerprinting.
    • Master degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
