Job Description

TITLE: Special Education Paraprofessional

LOCATION: Glover Elementary School - ACCESS Program

Pay: In accordance with CBA

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Working under the direct supervision of the assigned special education teacher(s), the paraprofessional assists in the implementation of specialized instruction to students who qualify for special education services, primarily working with an ASD student population.


• Follow directions and meet expectations of supervising teacher/specialist/administrator
• Be familiar with student IEP's and able to implement specialized instruction under the direct supervision of the special education teacher/specialist
• Be willing to ask for assistance and be available for any required training in areas that pertain to expected job skills
• Assist teacher in keeping students accountable for homework, handouts and other assignments and reteach, provide explanation and clarify class or home work
• Be child centered.
• Collaborate and communicate regularly with teachers/supervisors/specialists as requested by supervising teacher
• Maintain student confidentially at work and after hours at all times
• Understand the range of disabilities within a classroom and ask for information if particular disabilities are not understood
• Carry out other related special education duties as may be assigned by their supervisor(s)
• Openness and willingness to work as an integral member of a team.

    Job Requirements

    • Qualifications: Must be able to accurately and appropriately follow teacher's direction in all areas, with school or child experience preferred. Must be able to work as a member of a team for the benefit of all students.
    • Experience working with ASD student population a plus.
    • Experience with ABA practices preferred.
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
