Job Description

PRIMARY AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
An administrative position that assists the Director of Student Services in carrying out the state and federal special education mandates for students with disabilities. This is a long-term substitute position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Establishes the special education process at their level in line with the district special education framework
-Accepts, collects and coordinates all special education referrals
-Chairs all initial, reevaluation and annual review special education meetings
-Coordinates/leads discussion and schedules all Special Education building meetings with assigned special education secretary Attends regular consultation meetings with program teachers, therapists, psychologists, outside consultants and others to discuss program components and student issues
-Coordinates and/or conducts student observations in Special Education programs as needed
-Is responsible for the quality of the Individual Education Plans that are delivered to parents as well as ensuring the appropriate programming, goals and service delivery for all special education students at their level
-Keeps current on all applicable federal and state laws, regulations and best practices in the area of special education in Massachusetts
-Responsible for representing the needs and developing, modifying and maintaining special education department programming of the special education students at their level in a fiscally responsible manner
-Establishes and maintains good communication between Principal(s) and the special education department
-Shares responsibility with principals in the evaluation of special education teachers by conducting announced and unannounced teacher observations per the Ed. Eval model
-Models and promotes best practices in special education teaching
-Recommends and coordinates professional development for special education paraprofessionals and tutors
-Meets regularly with all program teachers and inclusion specialists to discuss student progress and challenges
-Facilitates summer services for students with special needs
-Carries out other related special education duties as may be assigned

    Job Requirements

    • -Must be highly qualified by DESE licensure standards – Must be licensed Special Education Administrator. SEI endorsement preferred.
      -Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess a high level of capability with technology.
      -Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property.
      -To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily.

    • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
    • Master degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
