TITLE: Inclusion Special Educator - Elementary

REPORTS TO: Principal

DESCRIPTION: The Marblehead Public Schools is seeking a candidate for an elementary inclusion special education teacher. This position is in accordance with Unit A of the district CBA.

Position Responsibilities:

• Supports regular educator by modifying curriculum for students eligible for special education, based on Massachusetts DESE grade-level frameworks.
• Works to ensure the rights of students with disabilities to be full participants in the general curriculum.
• Implements state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to special education.
• Participates in the development and oversight of implementation of IEPs for students eligible for special education.
• Supervises and supports paraprofessionals and tutors as they implement instruction.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
• Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a collaborative learning environment in the classroom.
• Evaluates and maintains data on pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
• Communicates regularly with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school program.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
• Supervises students during out-of-classroom activities, as assigned during the working day.
• Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing program and to determine special education eligibility.
• Participates in curriculum development programs as required.

    • Job Qualifications & Physical Demands:
      • Must be highly qualified by DESE licensure standards; must hold Massachusetts Moderate Special Needs Elementary licensure.
      • Strong curriculum background preferred.
      • Ideal candidate possesses effective communication skills and thrives in a team-centered environment.
      • Must be able to assist in the support and protection of students, through collaboration and directive of building administrators.
    • Bachelor degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
