DESCRIPTION: The Marblehead Public School District is seeking a highly qualified candidate for a special education reading specialist position (K-6). The special education reading specialist is responsible for providing coaching, support and oversight of providers of reading intervention across special education programming K-6. This position will also include providing some direct intervention instruction to students, as needed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Extensive knowledge of research-based reading interventions to address decoding, fluency and comprehension
• Understanding of grade-level balanced literacy curriculum frameworks
• Collaboration with special and general educators to effectively address reading goals for students receiving services as provided through an IEP
• Extensive knowledge of effective progress monitoring techniques
• Experience working with students at foundational reading levels, as well as experience working with students transitioning from explicit reading programming to generalization and application of skill with independence
• Strong understanding of assessment and diagnostic criteria for reading disabilities
• Skills in developing lesson plan structures for effective delivery of interventions
• Experience with RTI/MTSS models in order to collaborate with interventions being provided across all tiers of instruction.
• Experience working as an integral member of a collaborative team to ensure student progress and growth

    Job Requirements

    • • Must hold valid Massachusetts DESE licensure
      • Experience and/or certification with various intervention programs, such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Lips,Seeing Stars, Project Read, etc. a plus
    • Master degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
