Job Description

2-3 days per week, including full day on Saturdays.

Provide comprehensive services necessary for the promotion of optimal mental health, prevention and treatment of psychiatric disorders and health maintenance to students in a school-based setting. This includes the assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health problems and psychiatric disorders. The NPP works collaboratively with other mental health providers as well as with community PCPs and school personnel.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with a physician and/or mental health provider of record, (if one exists), to provide comprehensive mental health services for students.
Through patient evaluation, determine a differential diagnosis and plan for intervention.
Maintain a customer-oriented approach to meeting students' needs in an expedient manner, involving the family in the plan of care as appropriate.
Maintain confidentiality and patient privacy.
Assessing the impact of acute, critical and/or chronic illnesses or injuries on student health and functional status.
Document care provided.
ICD Coding for insurance billing for clinical services.
Prescribe and monitor medication.
Seek consultations as appropriate, act as a consultant as requested.
Perform comprehensive assessments and refer patients for further care and services to the larger medical community.
Utilize teaching opportunities with patients and their families to influence patient outcomes.
Assessing student and family bio/psycho/social needs based on physical and age-specific needs and providing psychosocial support to patients and family members.
Educating students and families about self-management f acute and chronic illnesses.
Identify learning needs of various populations and contribute to the development of educational programs to meet those needs.
Provides evidence-based individual therapy, such as cognitive behavior therapy for depression and anxiety.

    Job Requirements

    • Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally with students, health care team members, families and school staff. Ability to function independently with regards to most clinical decision making. Ability to relate well to children, teens, and families. Well versed in adolescent mental health and assessment.
      Education/experience required - Masters Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry with ideally 2 or more years of experience working with children and teens in a health care setting. Expert knowledge, complex decision-making skills, and clinical competencies to engage in advanced practice nursing activities.
    • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
    • Master degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
