The Music teacher will work with children in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, helping them discover their creativity and build their vocal skills. The music teacher may expand on the curricula that is currently in place for each grade level that they teach. History of music, music theory and vocal performance are required.

Music teachers also must fulfill many of the same duties as regular classroom teachers, such as administering tests and assignments, grading students on what they've learned, meeting with parents and other faculty members and daily assigned duties. There is also the opportunity to arrange concerts for students to display their musical talents to family, other students and faculty members.

The successful candidate will possess a passion for improving educational opportunities for urban students and for being a part of a strong, mission-driven team.

      • Create an organized, structured, positive and appropriate classroom environment that is conducive to learning
      • Develop and implement a suitable classroom management system so as to create and maintain a learning environment with high
      standards of student behavior in which all students are actively engaged and are contributing members
      • Discipline according to the school mission
      • Observe, evaluate, and communicate each student’s progress
      • Instills a love and appreciation for music through a comprehensive and sequential music curriculum
      • Is enthusiastic, creative, and dynamic, and enjoys working with students of all ages
      • Considers and uses student interests, learning styles and modes of expression, choices, pacing needs, and ability level to inform
      • Has extensive knowledge about both the use and production of music in an educational setting
      • Assists teachers with the integration of music in the classroom
      • Keeps informed on the latest practices, teaching methods and programs related to music

      • Bachelor's degree in either education, elementary education or secondary education
      o Masters degree preferred
      • Experience working in elementary or secondary education environment
      • Certification and/or licensure according to state requirements
      • Knowledge of the Massachusetts Common Core Standards - The Arts Discipline: Music
      • Bilingual-Spanish preferred
