Job Description

Purpose: To support the office operations and provide education services to help adults improve basic skills, learn English, and prepare for high school equivalency tests.

Qualifications: Associates Degree (preferred), Paraeducator Certificate, or equivalent experience in education or human services field.                            

Experience: Two (2) years in an education or human services field

Reports to: Adult Learner Services Coordinator

Evaluations: Two (2) within the first 90 days (probationary period) one per year thereafter

Location: Berlin, NH, with remote sites Lancaster and Colebrook. Serves Coös County.
Salary/benefits: Pay is $21/hour, 190 days (7 hr/day) between Sept-June. Benefits include: health insurance, sick leave, NH Retirement System, and mileage reimbursement.

Knowledge of educational environments conducive to learning; ability to work independently as well as part of team; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to adopt an effective course of action based upon existing conditions; sound professional judgment; flexibility; respect for confidentiality.

Other Requirements of the Job:

Reliable means of transportation and ability to travel throughout Coos County and occasional travel to Concord, NH or other training locations in NH.

 At the direction of the ALS Coordinator, the responsibilities of the Assistant Coordinator are:

Operations Responsibilities    

Maintain records and submit reports to the ALS Coordinator regarding students and volunteers as required by funding sources and policies of NH Bureau of Adult Education.

Maintain/staff office hours in Lancaster, NH and Colebrook, NH; includes providing the direct services outlined below.

Direct Service Responsibilities

Identify, recruit, and evaluate adult students needing HiSET instruction, basic reading and math skills, and/or as English as a Second Language (ESL).

Provide educational instruction to adult students in reading, writing, science, and social students in an individual or classroom setting per guidelines of the Bureau of Adult Education.  (Note: Math is taught through separately by a math tutor).

Recruit volunteer tutors.

Train volunteer tutors as needed to supplement training/mentoring available through the Bureau of Adult Education.

Other Responsibilities

Represent Coös Adult Learner Services by attending required organizational meetings including WIOA and NHEP.

Promote public awareness by attending and or speaking to various community organizations.

Promote public awareness by advertising throughout Coös County in various publications and or postings (bulletin boards, flyers, social media, etc.).

Attend required staff meetings of Adult Learner Services and North Country Education Services.

Pursue professional growth and development training made available statewide by the New Hampshire Bureau of Adult Education.

All other duties as assigned by the ALS Coordinator.
