Job Description

Hours would be mid-morning thru early evening. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Serve as point of contact in the building for custodial needs during shift.
  2. Perform major cleaning tasks such as vacuuming (using a 20 lb. vacuum daily for 3-4 hours), wet-mopping, sweeping, dusting, emptying trash (lifting waste paper and debris - minimum of 55 lbs.) and pencil sharpeners, cleaning whiteboards and disinfecting drinking fountains.

  3. Clean restrooms, including floors and all fixtures (i.e.: urinals, toilets, sinks, mirrors, partitions, and counters).  Ensure restrooms are clean and disinfected.

  4. Wash windows and sills (door glass).

  5. Perform ongoing tasks such as replacing light bulbs (climb ladders up to a height of 16 feet), filling dispensers, and setting up facilities for student and adult use (lifting furniture, boxes, and cafeteria tables-minimum of 55 lbs.).

  6. Work overtime and on weekends as necessary to for school events and to meet facility schedules.

  7. Ensure that all doors and windows are appropriately locked.

  8. Must be able to up and down stairs frequently, as well as regular bending and standing as needed in a daily shift.

  9. Assist in major clean-up in summer such as washing desks and chairs, washing down walls, stripping and waxing floors, etc.

  10. Pull weeds, keep grounds free of rubbish and in winter shovel snow from steps and sidewalks and apply ice melt when appropriate.
  11. Make building repairs and promptly report major repairs as needed to the Custodian Manager. Repairs to include, but not limited to: drywall patching, replacing ceiling tiles, replacing VCT tiles, replacing carpet,  replacing vinyl baseboard, light carpentry work, furniture repair, basic plumbing, etc.
  12. Maintain appearance of hallways throughout building by washing and buffing floors. This work cannot be done when students are in class. Clean classroom and MPR floors in summer and during breaks.
  13. Provide custodial oversight and leadership for assigned building when Head Custodian is absent.

 

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Inter-relate in a professional manner with students, faculty, administration and community patrons.
  2. Carry and answer radio at all times on school grounds.

  3. Submit information and data as requested.

  4. Regularly monitor school email for pertinent communication.

  5. Attend meetings as scheduled by supervisors and school administrators.

  6. Complete paperwork as requested.
  7. Complete training courses as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:                         

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. 
  • Able to pass DOE criminal background check
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Effective grooming skills
  • Ability to lift 55 pounds to shoulder height occasionally
  • Ability to push / pull a minimum of 20 pounds frequently
  • Basic carpentry, plumbing, and handyman skills as outlined above
