Job Description

We are now accepting applications for a DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES.

The Director of Student Services is responsible for the administration and supervision of all special education programming and support services (nursing, counseling, and ESL) for students in grades K-12.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead, direct, supervise and evaluate all related service providers (Occupational Therapist, Speech/Language Pathologist, Physical Therapist, Nurses, School Adjustment Counselors, and ELL staff)
  • Supervise and evaluate Team Chairs, in collaboration with campus principals
  • Support principals with supervision and evaluation of Special education and ESL teachers
  • Monitor compliance with federal and state special education regulations and ensure that all functions are consistent with district goals, objectives and policies
  • Supervise eligibility determinations of all students referred for special education
  • Supervise and coordinate instructional services provided to students with identified disabilities
  • Supervise and coordinate all aspects of English as a Second Language programming, including identification of ELs, curriculum design and implementation, progress monitoring, and exit criteria
  • Supervise implementation of health services to students in grades K-12 and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Develop and administer department budget for special education, ESL and related services
  • Oversee all state and federal entitlement grants for special education and ESL
  • Develop and implement professional development programs to improve staff skills in supporting students with diverse learning needs
  • Facilitate "Child Find" activities regarding students with disabilities
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive student records
  • Represent the district in mediation or due process hearings, as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Additional Functions:
  • Serve as Section 504 Coordinator, Liaison for Homeless Students and Civil Rights Representative
  • Keep informed of current laws, regulations and trends related to Special Education and related services and disseminate that information to members of the community
  • Report to the Board of Trustees, administrative team, and parents with regard to Pupil Personnel issues

    Job Requirements

    • Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
      • A minimum of 7 years of teaching experience, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement
      • Master's Degree and Massachusetts Licensure as an Administrator of Special Education
      • Comprehensive understanding of state and federal regulations pertaining to Special Education and English as a Second Language programming
      • Proven leadership skills and managerial abilities
      • Demonstrated ability to give and receive constructive feedback
      • Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to nurture a community of adult learners
      • Commitment to Prospect Hill Academy's educational mission, vision, and values
      • Well-developed and demonstrated cultural proficiency
      • Strong personal organizational and time-management skills
      • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and facilitate clearly in oral and written form with staff

    • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
    • Master degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
