Supervisor - Child Nutrition Warehouse
Purpose Statement
The job of Supervisor - Child Nutrition Warehouse is done for the purpose/s of managing the daily operation of the warehouse and delivery services and activities; overseeing assigned personnel; providing information to others; and scheduling work assignments within established timeframes and standards.

This job reports to Director of Child Nutrition
Essential Functions
  • Coordinates food purchases with government commodity allocations for the purpose of maintaining minimum levels and meeting the demands of school cafeteria operations.
  • Develops controls for the purpose of ensuring proper receipt, quality, storage, rotation and delivery of products.
  • Directs department functions for the purpose of ensuring optimal utilization of personnel and a safe and efficient functioning of the department.
  • Inspects warehouse equipment for the purpose of maintaining equipment in safe operating condition.
  • Maintains delivery schedule for cafeterias for the purpose of ensuring the supplies, materials ;a;and equipment needed to outfit cafeterias.
  • Maintains automated inventory control system for food supplies, materials and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of requested items at satellite sites.
  • Manages warehouse for the purpose of providing required training, staffing levels, materials and services.
  • Monitors departmental budget for the purpose of ensuring the accurate allocation of expenses and tracking of assets.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information relating to professional requirements, new products and technology.
  • Participates in the formation of current and long-range goals for Child Nutrition Department for the purpose of providing input for overall success of the operations.
  • Prepares a variety of materials (e.g. budget requests, payroll schedules, requisitions, work orders, productivity reports, evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Procures equipment, supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and proper storage in the warehouse facilities.
  • Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions (e.g. stock changes, technical advice, security, safety, bid specifications, terms, etc.) for the purpose of providing direction for meeting the district's goals and objectives.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of determining and implementing appropriate actions required to resolve situation.
  • Supervises department functions including hiring/termination recommendations, evaluating personnel, planning / scheduling / coordinating activities, training, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that the department functions in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Supports the director and other personnel as maybe required for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the work force and assisting them in the completion of their work activities.
Other Functions
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements:  Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: using materials handling equipment including operating forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, etc; operating standard office equipment; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems.  Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: warehouse management, procedures and equipment; materials handling and storage; safety regulations; district and department policies and procedures;.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups: meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; and working as part of a team; adapting to changing work priorities; maintaining confidentiality; working with frequent interruptions.
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a department, large work unit, and/or across several small work units; supervising the use of funds. utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing.  The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Experience       Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education        High school diploma or equivalent.
