Job Description

TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time (1.0); 2019-2020 school year; salary commensurate with experience and education, as set forth in the agreement between the Seekonk School Department and the Seekonk Educators Association

LOCATION:     District-wide, based at all four (4) schools

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All qualified candidates

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal(s) and Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning

 

The Social and Emotional Learning Coordinator works in collaboration with teachers, administrators, and families to promote the social and emotional development for all students within the school district.  The Social and Emotional Learning Coordinator should be an enthusiastic and student-centered educator.  The successful candidate will provide direct instruction to students, as needed, and will support teachers and staff by modeling best practices, coaching, and providing professional development as needed. In addition, the Social and Emotional Learning Coordinator will implement the goals and action steps articulated in the district’s Social and Emotional Action Plan, as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally have the following:

  1. Master of Education or Master of Social Work
  2. Current certification by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
  3. Strong understanding of the CASEL Core SEL Competencies
  4. Strong understanding of the Massachusetts Tiered System of Support (MTSS), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and the Response to Intervention framework
  5. Ability to motivate staff to support the social and emotional need of all learners
  6. Ability to facilitate, monitor and modify programming in order to positively impact student achievement and personal functioning
  7. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with children and adults
  8. Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and best practices
  9. Knowledge of Second Step preferred
  10. Knowledge of the Devereaux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA) preferred
  11. At least 5 years of experience in PK-12 education

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:

  1. Participate in the Student Support Team (SST) at each school, as necessary
  2. Provide professional development opportunity for staff members
  3. Provide direct instruction, particularly at the Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels, as requested by building principals and/or teachers
  4. Observe classrooms, as requested, and provide targeted feedback and strategies to support students in need of SEL intervention including providing strategies for data           collection related to SEL competencies
  5. Participate on all school-based PBIS/PBS/SEL committees
  6. Chair the district’s SEL committee
  7. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members
  8. Annually update the district’s Social and Emotional Learning Action Plan
