Job Description

The Massachusetts Migrant Education Program (MMEP) is seeking bilingual (English/Spanish) program assistants to support the classroom teachers for preschool, kindergarten, 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 classrooms. The students in the program come from Chelsea, Lynn, Revere, Everett, Boston and Malden School Districts, most of which are English Language Learners (ELL). The classroom is part of the MMEP Summer School in Chelsea. The program runs from July 8- August 2, Monday through Friday, from 8:15am - 1:30pm.

Must be able to attend statewide training on Saturday, June 22nd, as well as a regional training on site the week prior to the program start.

Applicants must be bilingual (English/Spanish), and should have experience with a classroom setting and, preferably, ELL students. Class sizes are approximately 15 students. Instruction will focus on the summer math & ELA curriculum.

The successful candidate will be committed to working as a collaborative member of the summer school team, supporting a fun and relaxed educational environment.

Attendance and punctuality are of the utmost importance.

    Job Requirements

    • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
    • Working knowledge of an education program's goals and objectives, basic skills for reading and mathematics instruction, maintenance of academic records, supplies, and materials
    • Ability to supervise or work with children in structured activities, following instructions, and completing tasks and duties in a thorough manner
    • Communication skills in developing rapport with students and staff to maintain a warm and supportive classroom atmosphere
    • Able to participate in physical education class
    • At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred
    • Associate degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
