Overview

Springfield Prep Charter School is a growing public charter school serving Springfield students.  We opened in the 2015-16 school year, will serve 324 students in grades K-5 in 2019-20, and will grow to ultimately serve nearly 500 students in grades K-8.  We are driven by the belief that all children deserve a world-class education and that they can and will achieve when provided with high expectations, rigorous curriculum, and a joyful school culture.

What You’ll Do

The Director of Student Supports is a senior leadership role with significant management and oversight responsibilities.  You will (1) lead a team of special education teachers and related service providers to deliver results for special education students and ensure compliance with all special education laws and (2) lead English Learner program to help English Learners meet ambitious language goals.   You will be responsible for driving academic and programmatic results through teacher coaching, support, and professional development; independently making decisions about the special education and EL programs; driving the school to hit ambitious academic goals for its special education and EL students; and ensuring compliance with all special education and EL laws.  You will work in concert with the Principal and report to the Director of Academics.

 

Examples of key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and oversee a highly organized, service-oriented special education program so that all students with IEPs and 504 plans get the services, accommodations, and/or modifications to which they are entitled and families get responsive, attentive service
  • Manage and coach between 6-8 teachers, paraprofessionals and related service providers to help students meet ambitious goals   
  • Lead effective, positive IEP and 504 meetings and build strong, trusting relationships with families  
  • Coordinate the schedules and services of all related service providers and evaluators (e.g., Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists) so that students receive excellent services
  • Write clear, high-quality IEP and 504 accommodation plans and maintain all special education records in an organized, systematic way
  • Lead weekly meetings with the special education team to monitor student progress, provide guidance and support, and discuss team related tasks
  • Plan and lead professional development sessions during Summer Institute and weekly PD meetings topics related to special education and EL program delivery
  • Provide oversight of the RTI process (Child Study Teams) and provide technical guidance when general and special education teachers need support
  • Oversee  school’s Tier 2 literacy interventions by managing support schedules, leading data meetings, and supporting program implementation
  • Lead and oversee the school’s Special Education Parent Advisory Council and English Learner Advisory Council
  • Collaborate effectively with the Behavior Support Team to plan and implement behavior support plans for students receiving special education services
  • Work closely with general education teachers to differentiate curriculum, support their creation of effective accommodations, and ensure that modified curriculum and/or materials align with the general education curriculum and are rigorous.

Qualifications

  • Massachusetts Special Education Administrator License
  • Master’s degree in Special Education or related field.  
  • Record of driving rapid student achievement as a Special Education teacher for 5+ years, preferably in urban schools (strongly preferred)
  • A record of success managing teams and people and to achieve results

 

Schedule & Compensation

The school will consider applicants interested in a part-time (approximately 25 hour per week) or a full-time role.  The DSS is employed on an administrator’s schedule and is employed full time, year-round with generous paid time-off benefits.  Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
