Job Description

The Ayer Shirley Regional School District is looking for special educators to join our team for the 2019-20 school year. In addition to being student-centered, collaborative, and reflective, the responsibilities of the special educator include, but are not limited to:

• Evaluate students to determine eligibility for Special Education and perform 3-year re-evaluations as required.
• Attend all appropriate team meetings.
• Develop and maintain individualized education plans (IEPs).
• Plan and execute developmentally appropriate lessons, make accommodations and modifications to general curriculum.
• Report on assigned student progress to parents, administrators and others as appropriate.
• Consult with appropriate personnel as needed to provide best possible education program for each child.
• Work collaboratively with general education staff to meet the needs of all students; engage in co-teaching when appropriate.
• Schedule activities in the least restrictive educational environment.
• Keep records as required by local policy and state and federal law.
• Supervise paraprofessionals as assigned.
• Plan and/or attend field trips and other out-of-class activities to enhance children’s learning.
• Make and/or order and inventory appropriate teaching materials and equipment in a timely manner, and maintain orderly classroom.
• Supervise lunchroom, transportation or other activities of any students as assigned.
• Other duties may be reasonably assigned.

    Job Requirements

    • DESE Certification in Moderate Disabilities, grades 5-12 or Pk-8 or Severe Disabilities, all levels
    • Extensive knowledge of social, emotional, and behavioral disorders, and behavioral and educational strategies/interventions to meet the needs of this student population
    • Experience working with this student population preferred
    • Experience working in an inclusion model preferred

    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
