 Neighborhood House Charter School was founded over 20 years ago with a mandate to both provide a better education for Boston’s low-income families and to incubate the best in teaching and learning practices. Serving over 600 children from Dorchester and surrounding neighborhoods, we have become one of the most sought-after public schools in the City. The 70 percent low-income, 80 percent minority families we serve truly reflect the diversity of Boston. In keeping with our commitment to provide a better education option for Boston children, we opened a Neighborhood House Charter School High School in the fall of 2017. We are uniquely positioned to understand the challenges facing Boston students as they move into high school, and we are both honored and excited to be able to offer a high school that will address these challenges and give families a new, distinctive option.
 
JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking a dynamic, caring and passionate teacher with a minimum of two years teaching experience, ideally in an urban district, with high energy level and the ability to develop effective, standards-based physical education lessons that support student learning and achievement of school academic objectives and benchmarks.
 
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach core subject, including planning and delivering lessons and monitoring and assessing the progress of each student
  • The ability to encourage socialization and sportsmanship so physical activity will be an enjoyable part of life
  • Ability to be flexible and work with staff to adjust activities based on weather
  • Teach cooperative games to build on the social/emotional curriculum happening in the school
  • Other roles and responsibilities as they become necessary

    Job Requirements

    • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
      Teachers must either be certified or licensed to teach in Massachusetts or have passed, prior to the end of their first year of employment, the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL). This includes a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills test and a passing score on the relevant subject matter knowledge test(s). Depending on the role, teachers may also need a Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement.
