ANTICIPATED OPENING

The Chelmsford Public Schools is now accepting applications for the following anticipated vacancy.

Position: Assistant Principal - Elementary School

Location: Harrington Elementary School



POSITION OBJECTIVE: Assist the Principal of Harrington Elementary School in providing leadership for the school staff: assist in planning, organizing, administering, and evaluating the entire school program.

REPORTS TO: Elementary School Principal

SUPERVISES: Staff as assigned by the Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plan with the Principal and staff the short- and long-range programs in the areas of curriculum development, guidance, testing,
and scheduling.

2. Assist in the selection, orientation, supervision, and evaluation of staff.

3. Assist the Principal by taking the major responsibility of developing the master schedule, including both teacher and student
assignments.

4. Administer a disciplinary policy in a manner which will help the student develop self­
discipline and promote respect for himself/herself and others.

5. Assist in developing a program of studies which is responsive to changing philosophies, needs, and practices.

6. Assist in interpreting the role of the school to students, parents, other schools, and the community.

7. Supervise student teachers and substitutes.

8. Supervise the computer grade recording system by maintaining liaison with the computer department and establishing
appropriate procedures for implementing and carrying out the grade reporting system.

9. Supervise and coordinate student attendance and accounting activities.

10. Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of school facilities and grounds, if delegated by the Principal.

11. Oversee the requisition, receipt, and distribution of supplies and equipment.

12. Attend departmental and grade level meetings.

13. Assume the duties of the Principal in the latter's absence.

14. Keep abreast of developments in education through participation in professional organizations, visits to other schools and school
systems, reading and study.

15. Render individual and group guidance to students and teachers relative to personal problems, educational and vocational
objectives, and social and recreational activities.

16. Assist with the necessary supervisory direction of clerical and auxiliary services.

18. Consult and interact with Principals and Counselors regarding student issues.

19. Attend and/or conduct Advisory Board meetings or other meetings with teachers to make recommendations and decisions,
solve problems and keep informed of current events in the educational field.

20. Perform other related duties as directed, or as responsibilities necessitate.

    Job Requirements

    • QUALIFICATIONS:

      1. State certification as required
      2. Master's Degree or high with graduate work in Administration
      3. At least five years' experience in elementary school teaching with three years experience in supervision and administration
      preferred
      4. Understanding of child development principles/theories
      5. Familiarity with Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) processes and practices as well as PBIS
      6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be found appropriate and acceptable

      TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 204 DAYS

      EVALUATION: The performance of this position will be evaluated annually in writing by the Principal in accordance with the provisions of the CAA contract, and will be discussed with the incumbent. Copy will be filed in the personnel office.
