Academic Dean: STEM

Goals: The Dean of STEM oversees all STEM courses taught at New Heights Charter School of Brockton and coordinates with other members of the Administrative and Academic Team to ensure that school goals are effectively met.



Responsibilities:

A. Coaching and Instructional Leadership: Supervise and guide the Math and Science teaching teams as they plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program and create a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential by:
1. Coaching science, math, and math lab instructional staff in collaboration with math and science lead teachers.
2. Observing math and science instruction and providing timely feedback to instructional staff.
3. Formally evaluating science, math, and math lab instructional staff in collaboration with the Director of Curriculum Instruction (DCI) and the school Principal.
4. Creating and co-leading professional development in collaboration with the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT).
5. Leading any common planning department meetings for math and science instructional staff in collaboration with math and science lead teachers.
6. Reviewing and providing feedback on math and science lesson plans in collaboration with math and science lead teachers.
7. Managing the ongoing development and implementation of NHCSB grading policies.
8. Monitor student performance data and support the RtI intervention process.

B. Curriculum Work: Assist the Director of Curriculum Instruction (DCI) in the creation and implementation of math and science curricula by:
1. Creating and/ or managing math and science course sequences in collaboration with Director of Curriculum Instruction (DCI) and Director of College Access (DCA).
2. Creating and/or managing school STEM curriculum (including overall course maps, unit plans, and lesson plans) in in collaboration with the Director of Curriculum Instruction (DCI).
3. Reviewing math and science lesson plans in collaboration with the Director of Curriculum Instruction (DCI) to ensure that lessons are well-aligned to established STEM curriculum.
4. Supporting professional development planning and implementation around curriculum implementation.
5. Supporting curriculum adoption planning and monitoring

C. Assisting in School-wide Goals: Assist other members of the NHCSB administration by:
1. Assisting the Director of College Access (DCA) in enrolling students in college level math and science courses.
2. Ensuring all STEM courses have all necessary supplies.
2. Overseeing STEM educational resources and maintaining inventories of all STEM resources.
3. Taking on additional school projects as assigned by the Director of Curriculum Instruction (DCI), Director of College Access (DCA), the School Principal, or any other members of the NHCSB Administration.
4. Performing any school assigned duties such as monitoring school hallways during transition between class or performing an assigned role during the student arrival or dismissal.
7. Ensuring the culture and routines of NHCSB are followed by teachers and students in collaboration with all administration.
