PK-8 Music Teacher
Derby Academy, a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8 co-educational day school located in Hingham, Massachusetts, seeks an enthusiastic, well-qualified candidate for the position of Music Teacher beginning in August 2019. Rooted in the school’s motto, “Improve Both Mind and Heart,” Derby Academy provides students with a joyful and rigorous academic environment. Music at Derby is a continuum of opportunities for children to listen, sing, dance, compose and play instruments. Enjoyment and creation of music is a fundamental and inextricable part of the Music Program at Derby. The music teacher will assist in teaching classes and helping out in major school initiatives related to the Arts Program. The Music Teacher is expected to collaborate with colleagues at various grade levels and within the department effectively. An ideal candidate will have a strong instrumental/band and choral background.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, excellent written and verbal communication skills, commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, ongoing engagement in professional development, and a passion for working with children is required.

Have a strong professional background in band/ensemble as well as chorus
Have a love of working with students;

Have a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and the impact it has on the curriculum and the community
Create a supportive and caring classroom environment in which students can learn and interact positively with one another; through student-centered instruction, collaboration and authentic assessment;
Communicate with parents to provide timely and appropriate feedback regarding student progress
Possess a growth mindset when it comes to engaging with relevant and mission-driven professional learning for themselves
