Summer Math Preview Program: Algebra I Math Teacher


Description of Services:

Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS) consists of four small learning communities that support

students in their academic, social and civic achievements.  Students enrolled in the Summer Math Preview

(MPP) have chosen to take an Honors or Advanced Math Placement math class next school year.  This

class will give those students a preview of the CRLS Math Department’s Honors Algebra I class. 

Essential algebra I topics and algebra I material will be addressed as will algebra I material that is

traditionally difficult for students.  Incorporated throughout the course will be studentship skills – taking

good notes, staying organized, time management skills, class participation and self-advocacy skills. 

Teachers in this program are expected to employ differentiated instructional strategies for diverse learners

including ELL and special education students. 


  • Knowledge about and the ability to implement the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for

Mathematics standards and the associated mathematical practice standards.

  • Knowledge about and the ability to implement the district Honors Algebra I core curriculum standards.
  • Assess student learning, monitoring students’ understanding of the curriculum and adjusting instruction


  • Integrate technology within the instruction to increase student comprehension and interest.
  • Create an environment that is positive for student learning and involvement, and ensuring equitable

opportunities for students to receive ongoing feedback.

  • Communicate learning goals and high standards and expectations to all students.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of behavior, mutual respect and safety.
  • Demonstrate the appreciation for and sensitivity to, the diversity among individuals.
  • Provide multiple access points and scaffolding within instruction and assessment for a wide range of


  • Share the responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of the CRLS Math Department, CRLS

and the Cambridge Public Schools. 

  • Meet professional obligations with respect to punctuality, attendance and routine duties.







Minimum Requirements:


Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university; Massachusetts certification in grade 9-12 Mathematics.  Experience teaching in an urban, multi-cultural school system with inclusionary practices.  Meet NCLB highly qualified teacher requirements. 


The contract amount shall not exceed $1,172.50 or 33.5 hours of work (including 20 hours of seat time,

 10 hours of prep time, and 3.5 hours of required program meetings) at the Summer School Teacher rate

 of $35.00 per hour.
