Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW

Functions as a member of the three person classroom team to support the educational process for students. Primary responsibilities pertain to behavior management and the maintenance of a therapeutic milieu.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Help maintain the learning environment by supporting students within the classroom and working proactively to reduce behavioral difficulties
• Supervise student time out of class and processing with students regarding their behavior according to Manville protocol.
• Provide crisis intervention and back up support as necessary and requested.
• Physically restrain students using nonviolent physical intervention methodologies.
• Actively work with classroom team to develop appropriate behavioral interventions and individualized behavior plans for students.
• Collect and analyze daily behavioral data.
• Maintain student attendance and lunch count data on a daily basis
• Actively participate in; weekly classroom meetings, class room supervisions and individual supervisions
• Collaborate with counseling staff in the development and implementation of systems of accountability for students.
• Eat with and supervise students at lunch.
• Actively participate in P.E. and recess activities with students, modeling positive social interactions and good sportsmanship.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding significant events.
• Facilitate work for student conflict resolution.
• Participate in Morning meetings with the classroom and assigned therapist
• Regularly attend and participate in bi-weekly counselor meeting.
• Participate in all mandatory trainings (CPI, Risking Connections, OT, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• Bachelor’s degree in mental health related field.
• At least two years of related experience working with children. Demonstrated strong skills in communication and behavior management.
• Ability to be flexible and to work collaboratively. Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and safely. Strong writing skills. Demonstrated capacity for therapeutic attunement, empathy, and creative problem solving. Good understanding of developmental,
learning, multi-cultural and behavioral issues. Is receptive to supervision and professional development.

    • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (with or without accommodation)

      Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear and be capable of repetitive motion

      Position requires regularly applying physical restraints to highly escalated students up to 300 lbs, including kneeling and/or lying on the floor while holding on to a physically struggling student .

      Position requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and or excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

      Work requires close visual acuity

      Position is subject to environmental conditions, activities occur both inside and outside
