Summary:

Under the direction of the adaptive Physical Education Teacher, the PE/Swim Teacher will organize, supervise, teach and provide special services for participating students in assigned physical education and recreational activities such as, running, walking, aerobic fitness, Pilates, Yoga, cheerleader coaching, wrestling, rowing, bowling, swimming, winter adventure, strength and conditioning for students individually or in small groups for students individually or in small groups or other physically related activities.



Responsibilities:

To organize, plan class content, supervise, teach and provide special services for participating students in assigned physical education and recreational activities such as, running, walking, and aerobic fitness, Pilates, Yoga, cheerleader coaching, wrestling, rowing, bowling, swimming, winter adventure, strength and conditioning or other physically related activities for students individually or in small groups.
Provide Instruction and demonstrates techniques and methods in all forms participating students in the aforementioned physical education and recreational activities as assigned by the supervisor.
Provides general supervision of the physical education and recreational activities; enforcing rules and regulations, prepare class schedules.
Observes class participants to determine physical qualifications and limitations and plans programs to meet class participants’ needs and aspirations.
Observes safety precautions, correct minor safety problems, conduct activities in a safe manner; maintains discipline at indoor and outdoor recreational areas.
Creates an instructional and safe environment for all class participants.
Cleans and organizes exercise area after each class.
To perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.

    Job Requirements

    • Minimum Requirements:

      Bachelors’ degree
      Eligibility for ACVREP Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Instructor
      Ability to complete and maintain First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and Crisis Prevention and Physical Intervention (CPPI) Certifications


      Preference may be given to candidates with:

      Master’s degree
      Two years’ experience teaching students with visual impairments who may also have additional disabilities
      Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive school vehicles including chair cars
    • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
    • Bachelor degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
