Job Description

The Interim Director of Curriculum Development shall be that employee member of the Everett
Public Schools designated by the Superintendent of Schools to have the responsibility on a full time basis for the proper and efficient operation and development of the entire curriculum for Grades Preschool-12.
The Interim Director of Curriculum Development will devote full time to general supervision
over all curriculum, education programs and services in the school system, including without limitation, the development, evaluation and reorganization of existing curriculum and programs.

The Interim Director of Curriculum Development must, by personal approach, encourage the faculty to participate in all school curriculum development.

1. Participate in the selection, evaluation and introduction of all curriculum
2. Adhere to the Everett School Committee Rules and Regulations and all directives of the
Superintendent of Schools and/or Assistant Superintendents of Schools
3. Plan and supervise the use of curriculum and make recommendations to the Superintendent
4. Prepare letters, written reports and make oral presentations regarding curriculum development activities
5. Supervise the ordering of materials of instruction, textbooks and equipment
6. Attend and participate in various professional and in-service meetings that enhance the educational goals of the schools, as approved and directed by the Superintendent
7. Supervise and institute all state, federal and central office directives regarding curriculum
and MCAS initiatives
8. Complete state and federal grant opportunities presented to the Everett Public Schools

1. Supervise the plans for determining, developing and implementing the curriculum
2. Participate in system-wide committees, as required
3. Serve as Chairperson of the Professional Development Committee and oversee the yearly revision of the Everett Public Schools District and School Improvement Plans
4. Confer with all personnel, central office and administrators as needed
5. Oversee Directors as they manage content areas with staffing and programming

1. Communicate with parents by means of school programs, by letter, telephone and personal contacts
2. Meet with parents and community groups and agencies

1. Conduct a program of instructional supervision for all faculty members
2. Support implementation of curriculum and data cycle analysis that ensures educational outcomes consistent with educational goals
3. Provide for an exchange of ideas through committee meetings and individual conferences
4. Employ an efficient system for curriculum and program appraisal and recommend to the Superintendent, changes needed to improve existing curriculum programs to meet the needs of students (textbook analysis)
5. Re-evaluate policies and progress at intervals with members of the staff
6. Consult with or cooperate with principals, directors, department heads and other resource personnel for educational planning and evaluation procedures
7. Provide leadership and initiative for organizational improvement
8. Provide opportunities for in-service training programs
9. Coordinate the annual Everett Public Schools Professional Development Opportunities

1. Exercise general supervision over the recommendation, evaluation and curriculum planning for the entire system
2. Provide for all state regulations
3. Maintain a current list and description of all programs that are available in the school system
4. Find the best combination of educational and other services for students
5. Demonstrate knowledge of existing, as well as new, state regulations pertaining to curriculum and attend meetings called by the state, relative to these regulations
6. Provide direction for on-going programs and, in addition, compose changes in programs to meet the needs of all students
7. Insure that all necessary procedures are followed according to state regulations
8. Keep the Superintendent of Schools, Assistant Superintendents, Principals, Directors, Department Heads and Coordinators informed of situations and issues regarding the curriculum
9. Set up new or expanded programs when needed and realistically feasible
10. Insure the proper curriculum is being followed in each school
11. Work with staff concerning curriculum
12. Perform any other duties and assume any other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and/or Assistant Superintendents of Schools

    Job Requirements

    • A. Minimum: A Master's degree from an accredited institution
      B. Minimum: Ten years' experience in education with at least five in Curriculum Development programs
      C. Minimum: Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education certification
      as Supervisor/Director SEI Administrator Endorsement
    • At least 10 years of relevant experience preferred
    • Master degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
