Job Description

About Lawrence Public Schools

Lawrence Public Schools is an urban district, located 30 miles north of Boston, serving more than 13,000 students. We believe the fundamental unit of change in education reform is the school.

About the Lower School at Lawrence High School

Ninth grade and tenth grades are critical years of high school. In fact, ninth grade performance is a better predictor of high school and college graduation rates than standardized assessments or background characteristics such as race and economic status. Despite its importance, research shows that freshman have the lowest GPA, most missed classes and more behavioral referrals than any other grade in high school.

As parts of the Lower School, the 9th & 10th Grade Academies serve students making the transition from public and private middle schools in the City of Lawrence. A core belief of Lawrence High School is that all students can be successful when consistently held to high academic and behavioral expectations and provided with intensive supports.

Lawrence High School is seeking hardworking and reliable teachers who are passionate about their content and dedicated to honing their craft. Our students need teachers who support them within and beyond the classroom. Lawrence High School seeks teachers who are humble, hungry for feedback and eager to develop. They seek out challenges and are motivated by the rewards that come with a job well done in work that matters.

The educator’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Teach approximately five 90 minute periods within their content area;
Plan and deliver rigorous lessons aligned to state standards with a focus on having students read, write, listen, and speak during each class.
