Job Description

Rivendell Academy is a small 7-12th grade school located in the picturesque Connecticut River Valley of Vermont and New Hampshire. Our school is committed to a personal, student-centered approach to education. We focus on understanding and developing student ideas that emerge from encountering rich materials and complex questions. Rivendell is committed to the integration of technology and interdisciplinary projects.

Rivendell Interstate School District is hiring a person to assist the lead teacher in a newly created Academic Mentoring Program. The program serves a small group of 9th and 10th graders of high ability, yet low performance. The candidate must be able to develop strong, personal working relationships with adolescents. The candidate must be able to support learning in the areas of algebra, geometry, physical science, biology, and literacy. Equally important is the ability to work with students to identify and overcome barriers to becoming motivated, independent learners, as well as teaching necessary study habits. The candidate will be a member of the Academic Mentoring Committee.

Strong candidates will have demonstrated creativity and success in motivating under-performing adolescents. He or she will have the ability to develop a supportive and positive learning culture.

    Rivendell Interstate School Distrist was the first K-12 interstate school district in the United States. It is now a preK-12 school district and serves three Vermont towns (Fairlee, West Fairlee and Vershire) and one New Hampshire town (Orford).

    Rivendell is located in the picturesque four-season Upper Valley near Dartmouth College and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. The District also includes beautiful Lake Morey and Lake Fairlee and has a 37-mile hiking trail that connects the four towns.

    Job Requirements

    • College degree and experience preferred; desire to work with adolescents. The application must include a current resume, all transcripts and three letters of reference. Position will remain open until filled.
