Purpose Statement
The job of Coordinator, Migrant Program is done for the purpose/s of coordinating the migrant  program and related activities; implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards; and serving as a resource to others.

This job reports to Director of Federal Programs
 
Essential Functions
  • Analyzes a variety of program related information (e.g. preschool activities, state reports, parental input, out of classroom activities, etc.) for the purpose of providing direction and support, making recommendations, and/or ensuring overall operations are within budget/grant.
  • Assists teachers in addressing issues raised by their assessments for the purpose of collaborating for instruction problems solving and evaluating strategies and program features to help migrant students achieve academically.
  • Assists with developing and implementing plans, grants, budgets, and proposals to meet migrant students' academic and non-academic needs for the purpose of linking students and families to necessary services, overcoming cultural, language or economic barriers to services and bringing research based interventions and support programs into schools.
  • Collaborates with District, government, and community entities, here and in other states (e.g. community organizations/agencies, Migrant Advisory Council, Preschool Coordinator, YETC, transportation department, health department, state agencies, etc.) for the purpose of delivering comprehensive services and supports to meet the needs of migrant students and families.
  • Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. student records, compliance reports, personnel evaluations, parent interview results for eligibility assessment, etc.) for the purpose of documenting events, requesting and/or disseminating information in compliance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Manages program components (e.g. grant writing, parent meetings, transportation, lunches, preschool, summer school, identification of migrant students, state and federal reporting, professional development, technology equipment, etc.) for the purpose of meeting district and/or grant /program guidelines.
  • Participates as a member or facilitator in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars (e.g. national and state conferences, professional development workshops, parent meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Presents information (e.g. community agencies, Parent Advisory Council, state conferences, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information on the Migrant Child Education Program and/or gaining feedback.
  • Processes a variety of documents and materials (e.g. student demographic data modifications, parent interview results for eligibility assessment, etc.) for the purpose of documenting events, requesting and/or disseminating information in compliance with established administrative guidelines.
  • Recruits children and their families for the purpose of assessing their needs for the Migrant and Homeless programs and involving migrant families in learning and active support of instruction.
  • Responds to issues from a variety of internal and external sources (e.g. staff, other educational institutions, public agencies, parent and/or students, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, identifying the relevant issues and recommending and facilitating communication amongst parties and/or providing direction.
  • Supports assigned personnel for the purpose of providing assistance with their functions and responsibilities ensure the needs of all students are central to instructional planning and delivery of services.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including pertinent software programs, planning and managing projects, preparing and maintaining accurate records, supervising personnel; analyzing data; applying assessment instruments; facilitating meetings; promoting activities and/or events.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.  Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: migrant education and cultural; adult education; program administration; job-related codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; knowledge of community resources; methods of instruction and training.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities, communicating with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, meeting deadlines and schedules, setting priorities and working under time constraints, organizing and communicating information and concepts; working as part of a team; working extended hours.

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; managing a department; directing the use of budgeted funds within a work unit. utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling,  some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing.  The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment and in a clean atmosphere.

Experience       Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
