Title: METCO Academic Interventionist

Qualifications:
  • Certified Elementary Education, Reading, or Special Education
  • Previous experience in elementary education
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check
Reports To: Building Principal

Job Goal:The Academic Interventionist will provide reading, writing, and mathematics instruction to an identified at-risk population. They will work with the principal and the classroom teachers to design and teach intervention lessons that meet the specific needs of small groups or individual students.

Work Year: These are one year positions with continued employment for subsequent years dependent on funding availability.

Salary/Benefits: Hourly rate, $27 an hour, 18.5 hours per week

Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Provide intervention services to at-risk children in literacy and math in order to support academic growth.
  2. Participate with principal and the classroom teachers to design appropriate academic supports to meet student needs.
  3. Assist in administering appropriate testing of students and the analysis of results.
  4. Meet with principal and classroom teachers to share observations of student performance and progress.
  5. Maintain a database for tracking and assessing interventions and student progress.
  6. Provide direct Tier II services within the classroom and/or small group settings.
  7. Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students.
  8. Participate in professional growth opportunities
  9. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Principal or the Superintendent.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Must possess the ability to:
  1. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel and students.
  2. Communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form.
  3. Use appropriate tiered intervention programs in reading, writing, and math to instruct at risk students.
  4. Ensure those strategies used support Melrose’s curricula goals.
