Substitute Teachers in the City of Baker School System require at least a four year college degree from an accredited institution. In addition, substitute teacher applicants must complete a drug and alcohol screen from Lane Memorial Hospital at no cost to the applicant and must complete a fingerprinting background check from the Louisiana State Police Office at a cost of $52.24 ($49.25 cost + $2.99 convenience fee) paid by credit/debit card OR by two separate money orders for $10.00 and $39.25, respectively. The current pay for substitute teachers is $85 per day; however, if one is a long-term substitute teacher, she or he can earn up to $120 per day after 20 consecutive days in the same classroom. Substitute teachers are the teacher of record while they are performing their job function and must follow all policies and procedures of the City of Baker School Board as well as that of the respective school in which he or she is substituting.
All substitute teachers are encouraged, but not required, to seek entry into an alternative certification teacher program. Entry Requirements include: 1) undergraduate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, 2) at least a 2.5 g.p.a. in the last 60 hours of coursework, 3a) ACT composite of 22, 3b) SAT score of 1030 on math + verbal, 3c) Master's degree in anything from an accredited institution of higher learning, OR 3d) passing scores on PRAXIS I Reading, Writing, and Math, AND 4) PRAXIS II Content Area in whatever an individual wants to teach (Examples: 1st-5th Grade Elementary, 4th-8th Upper Elementary and Middle School Core Area (Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, and English Language Arts), 6th-12th Grade Core Area or Other Subjects).
