Job Description

The Rivendell Interstate School Board invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools. Rivendell Interstate School District serves approximately 500 students in 3 schools with a total operating budget for FY19 of $10.6 million. We pride ourselves in achieving educational equity across a socio-economically diverse population.

Rivendell sits in the beautiful upper Connecticut River Valley – near the rich cultural, educational, and economic opportunities provided by Dartmouth College, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and the surrounding countryside, and only hours by car from Boston and Montreal.

Founded in 1998, Rivendell is one of the few PreK-12 interstate public school districts in the country, uniting three towns in Vermont (Fairlee, Vershire, and West Fairlee) with one in New Hampshire (Orford). Governed by a single school board, Rivendell has become known for its innovative, rigorous, and individualized approach to education. Its three schools (Samuel Morey and Westshire elementary schools and Rivendell Academy) have been consistently ranked among the best schools in Vermont and New Hampshire.

The superintendent serves as chief executive officer of the district and advisor to an eleven member School Board. The successful candidate will be a highly skilled communicator and team builder who manages the operations of the district and supports the administrative team in delivering high quality education for the district.

The position requires licensure as Superintendent in both Vermont and New Hampshire. The position is part-time (.8 FTE) and offers a competitive salary. Scheduling of days and hours is negotiable. Expected start date is July 1, 2019. The position will remain open until filled.
