Job Description

Pembroke is one of the youngest and fastest growing communities on the south shore of Massachusetts, ideally located between the beaches of Cape Cod and the city of Boston, which is 25 miles away and accessible by commuter rail. The Pembroke community holds high expectations for its schools and its children, with an average of 90% of the students continuing on to post-secondary education.

Pembroke seeks qualified candidates for the position of elementary school Principal. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong instructional leadership and interpersonal skills, with a focus on creating a superior learning environment for all students. At least three (3) years of administrative experience is required, with a strong background in education, literacy and instructional and programmatic evaluation preferred. Candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to use data for the improvement of teaching and learning. Candidates must hold or be eligible for Massachusetts licensure.

    Job Requirements

    • QUALIFICATIONS:

      1. Hold or be eligible for Massachusetts Department of Education certification as school principal at appropriate level.

      2. A Master’s Degree or higher in educational administration or related field.

      3. At least three years of successful experience in school administration or related field, and five or more years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably at the level for which applying.

      4. Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, educational experience, school-level involvement and/or system-wide professional activities, and the interview process.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

      1. Establish and maintain an effective learning climate within a safe and secure environment for all students and staff.
      2. Initiate, design, schedule, implement, and evaluate programs to meet specific school, student, and staff needs.
      3. Establish, maintain, and promote positive relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
      4. Supervise and evaluate all assigned professional and support staff.
      5. Assist in recruiting, screening, hiring, training, and assigning school staff.
      6. Initiate programs that meet the professional development needs of all staff members and conduct meetings as needed or required.
      7. Maintain high standards of student behavior and discipline in accordance with School Committee policies and established procedures.
      8. Coordinate, attend, supervise and/or provide supervision for all school-sponsored activities, functions, and events.
      9. In conjunction with the building principal, facilitate articulation, coordination, and communication with all school buildings.
      10. Be familiar and remain current with changes and developments in education including, but not limited to, teaching-learning styles, inclusion, emerging technologies, school-based improvement, and restructuring and reform initiates.
      11. Prepare budget requests and initiate and monitor expenditures in accordance with established policies and procedures.
      12. Ensure compliance with and adherence to all federal and state laws, School Committee policies, and administrative regulations.
      13. Prepare or supervise the preparation of all reports, records, lists and other required documentation.
      14. Demonstrate competency with utilizing technology to enhance administrative effectiveness and building management functions.
      15. Serve on district committees and attend and/or conduct meetings as directed by the Superintendent.
      16. Represent the school and/or district on relevant regional and state committees and organizations.
      17. Supervise and delegate responsibilities to building vice principal and other assigned administration.
      18. Perform all duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

      Vision –Must be able to prepare and read documents and use a computer and other office equipment on a daily basis.

      Auditory and Verbal Communication –Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently by telephone and in person with Committee members, staff, students, parents, and the public.

      Physical Abilities – Performing this position requires extended sitting, filing, and use of a computer and other School office equipment.

      Extended Concentration and Excellent Recall Abilities – Both of these capabilities are an important part of properly fulfilling the requirements of this position.

      Ability to Remain Calm in Stressful Situations.

      TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

      Twelve month work year. Salary and benefits to be established by an individual contract between the Principal and the Pembroke School Committee.
