Job Description


The Elementary Music/Choral K-5 teacher will teach students grades K-5 at the Kennedy-Longfellow School. The teacher will be responsible to the principal as well as the Director of Visual and Performing Arts. The candidate must have knowledge of vocal development and training in the Kodaly method. The candidate should be an outstanding musician capable of developing and teaching a rigorous music curriculum, including recorder and performance to the lower grades and chorus at the upper grades.


The teacher must be able to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. The candidate will be expected to work successfully and collaboratively with classroom teachers and other Visual and Performing Arts staff. The teacher must meet professional obligations, be willing to participate in school and district level performances, and contribute to departmental and school-based initiatives. The teacher must be able to steward the responsible use of supplies, equipment, space and teaching resources.


Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Massachusetts State Certification for Music preferred. Must be proficient on piano. Knowledge of Responsive Classroom is a plus. Kodaly Certification is a plus. Previous successful experience teaching students in an urban, multicultural setting is preferred.
