Job Description

Crossroads School, in Marlborough, MA is a private, nonprofit school dedicated to transforming the lives of children with autism using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. We seek to hire a full-time Nursing Director to lead our Nursing Department. The days and hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 3:00pm.

The Nursing Director collaborates with parents, educators, and community health care professionals to provide quality health care to students. The Nursing Director practices in accordance with the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act, and in accordance with the regulations of the Department of Public Health and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Key Responsibilities:

• Establishes and manages a comprehensive school health program consistent with the Massachusetts guidelines, regulations, and statues governing nursing and school health.
• Consults with school administrators, school physician, and others to establish, review, and revise policies, protocols and specific programs for comprehensive school health.
• Organizes and implements state-mandated programs such as immunization surveillance and screening programs.
• Promotes and assists in the control of communicable disease through infection control based on current guidelines for universal precautions, prevention of blood borne pathogens exposure and hazardous waste.
• Maintains up-to-date health records on students.
• Provides medically prescribed interventions, including medication (based on state regulations), and provides care to ill children.
• Oversees the professional development, training and supervision of School Nurse(s).
• Serves as an ambassador for Crossroads (i.e., externally speaks well of Crossroads and its members).
• Demonstrates punctuality and an appropriate attendance record.
• Provides coverage when the other nurse cannot work.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (Master’s preferred)
• Two years’ experience in pediatric, community health, or school nursing.
• Valid Massachusetts nursing license.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Physically able to perform the aspects of the job and respond quickly in an emergency.
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Demonstrates calm and objective demeanor in emergency situations.
