SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
This Associate Director of College Counseling is a member of a dynamic team of professionals that includes the Director of College Counseling, an Associate Director, and a College Counseling Administrative Assistant. Reporting to the Director of College Counseling, the Associate Director will have primary responsibility for counseling approximately 50 students in each class through the college admission process. In addition, the Associate Director will be involved in developing and presenting programs for students and parents at various stages of the process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND KEY OBJECTIVES
• Strong counseling skills, and ability to work effectively with a diverse adolescent population.
• Strong understanding of colleges and universities, primarily in the U.S. but also including Canadian and European universities. Visits to college campuses are important to this understanding. Development of relationships with college admission professionals expected.
• Expertise in the college admission process, including an understanding of differing levels of selectivity, the role of standardized testing, the financial process and scholarship search. Attendance at professional conferences and workshops is encouraged and supported.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to write clearly and persuasively in support of counselees.
• Strong organization and time-management skills.
• Sense of professionalism and high ethical standards, and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Sense of humor, flexibility, collegiality, teamwork, and independence.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Advising group of up to ten students as part of WA advising program.
• Advising/supervising a qualified activity or coaching a sport.
• Other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director.

    Job Requirements

    • Education
      • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in counseling or education administration a preferred.

      Experience
      • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in a selective college admission office and/or independent school college counseling office.

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
      • Strong technology skills a must. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Proficiency with presentation software a plus.
      • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, service oriented atmosphere.
      • Working knowledge of database systems for student records; Naviance experience highly desirable.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS
      • Be physically and mentally capable of performing and tracking multiple tasks in stressful situations and under pressure
      • Be able to function in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
      • Be capable of using a visual display terminal and keyboard with continuous wrist movement
      • Be able to stand, climb stairs, reach, kneel, lift and transport a minimum of 25lbs
      • Be able to navigate an open campus during four seasons of weather conditions

      Additional requirements:
      • Starting 2 weeks before faculty arrive to start the year (approx. July 31, 2019)
      • Working the 1st of 2 weeks of the December holiday break
      • Working one of the 2 Spring Break weeks (TBD by Director)
      • Working one week past when faculty depart for the summer
    • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
    • Bachelor degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
