Assistant Principal/ Dean
Lawrence, MA
Grade Level: PK-2

The Assistant Principal (AP) or Instructional Dean will report to the Principal and serves on the school Leadership Team. The AP/ Dean is responsible for the leadership and implementation of the school’s academic program, especially the management and development of teachers across content areas. The AP/ Dean supports the creation/ implementation of professional development, leads efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive school environment, and takes responsibility for the success of the entire school’s academic program in partnership with the Principal and school leadership team.

Candidates must also possess a can-do attitude and be a relentless advocate on behalf of our students, families and staff.

Specific Responsibilities
– Oversee the growth and development of a cohort of teachers across grade levels
– Develop data-driven coaching plans that include formal and informal feedback on observations, lesson plan review, curriculum implementation, lesson design, and more
– Build teachers’ ability to independently develop strong standards-aligned curricular materials and instructional strategies to support the learning of all students.
– Regularly design schoolwide and targeted professional development based on trends in student learning and staff need
– Conduct a rigorous performance evaluation process to assess teacher effectiveness based on coaching and student learning data
– Develop and support a culture of reflective practice and positive relationships among staff
– Engage students’ families as valued partners in their child’s education and celebrate the cultures, languages, and heritages of the community
– Create, model and coach teachers on relationship building strategies which may include navigating difficult conversations, conducting home visits, etc,
– Lead and support parents facing initiatives including our “whole family” approach to educating out students.
– Contribute to hiring process as needed.
– Continuously challenge status quo and while adopting a balancing between an innovative culture and accountability for results.
– Coach teachers on instructional planning, including daily and unit plans to ensure they align to the standards and long-term student achievement goals.
– Facilitate weekly meetings to analyze student work, review information regarding classroom assessments, and plan for instruction
– Ensure student mastery of state, city, and school academic and behavioral standards
– Support teachers to design and implement formative assessments that measure progress towards academic standards

Qualifications
– Bilingual candidates are strongly preferred as are candidates from the community
– Demonstrated success in leading in a diverse environment
– Fluency Microsoft Office Suits, specifically Excel.
– Strong organizational skills.
– Expertise in managing and manipulating data to support ongoing monitoring of student and teacher performance.
– Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree is preferred
– Strong pedagogical content knowledge
– At least three years of teaching experience preferred
– At least three years of school-level instructional leadership experience required; teacher coaching and supervision required
– A valid Massachusetts Principal/Assistant Principal/ Dean, Administrator license
